The Ayrshire Bulls charged their way to a 20-64 rout over Stirling Wolves at Bridgehaugh this evening. A try in just the second minute put the Bulls in front, a place where they stayed for the remaining 78.

Tries for Ayr came through; Blair Macpherson (2), Aaron Tait (2), Lewis McNamara (2), Richie Simpson, Cam Jones, Will Hunt and Tim Brown.

Unsurprisingly Pat MacArthur was all smiles come full-time. Chatting to press he said: “To come to Stirling and get 64 points – we haven’t beaten them in the last four league games – is great. I thought we fronted up well and looked good”.

Pat was particularly happy that his men kept the foot on the gas and didn’t lose intensity. Even with the game’s result secured his men continued to build, personified by a Blair Macpherson try deep in injury time. He said: “That says a lot. With a minute to go we could have just seen it out and kicked the ball away but we wanted to scrum for a penalty, we wanted a couple of big physical contacts and it turned out Blair got a try”.

Although the bonus point was secured before half-time, at 10-24 the game was still there for both sides. A rampant second half proved to be the difference, with the Bulls putting their competitors to the sword: “We had an honest discussion at half time. Yeah we had the bonus but we felt we weren’t playing the way we wanted to. We came out after and really stepped up the intensity and I’m proud of that”.

It was a game in which a number of players put their hand up for FOSROC Player of the Match honours, but it was captain Blair Macpherson who leaves with the medal around his neck. The back-row was at his swashbuckling best for the full eighty, with him providing the first and last scores of the encounter.

The result means it’s a clean sweep for Millbrae Men at Bridgehaugh today with the Club 1XV winning 10-18 over Stirling County and Ayr/Millbrae beating their County equivalents 17-7.

The Bulls will look to build on their rich run of form next Saturday when they welcome Southern Knights to Millbrae. The match kicks off at 17.00 and you can follow the action every step of the way on Twitter @AyrshireBulls.
